Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 409

In 1995, Jerry Brokaw approached the Knights of Columbus at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church about reconstituting Troop 409 and Pack 409 in Excelsior. The Knights agreed to sponsor the Pack/Troop. In October 1995, Troop 409 was rechartered. Starting with 8 scouts and Jerry as the Scoutmaster, the adventure began.

What the Scout Law Means to Me

A great American, John Wayne, passed away many years ago. One of his last public appearances was at a dinner. He was riddled with cancer and knew he was close to death. The purpose of the dinner was to benefit a land purchase for a Scout Reservation calledJohn Wayne Outpost Camp.

One Hundred Scouts

Of any one hundred boys who become Scouts, it must be confessed that thirty will drop out in their first year. Perhaps this may be regarded as a failure, but in later life all of these will remember that they had been Scouts and will speak well of the program.

Boy Scout Program

Boy Scouting, one of the traditional membership divisions of the BSA, is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years old. The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness.
