History and Traditions

Troop 409 boasts a rich tapestry of history, tradition, and cherished memories. Chartered in 1997 by the Knights of Columbus, Council 5268 and sponsored by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Excelsior, Minnesota, the troop began its journey. In 2018, Troop 409 underwent a significant transition, rechartering under the South Lake Minnetonka Scouting Association and relocating to Our Savior Lutheran Church. Another pivotal moment occurred in 2021 when the troop's charter found a new home at the Chanhassen American Legion, Post 580. Throughout these evolutions, Troop 409 has left an indelible mark, impacting the lives of over a thousand scouts and fostering the growth of 85 Eagles. This storied history has shaped a distinctive philosophy of scouting and nurtured a wealth of traditions that continue to thrive within the troop today.

Mother's Day Tradition

Starting in 2021, Troop 409 established a heartwarming tradition of presenting a red rose to every scout's mother on Mother’s Day. Annually, on the second Saturday of May, scouts gather to embark on a special mission: delivering roses to the mothers within the troop. With dedication and pride, uniformed scouts visit each mother's doorstep, presenting them with a beautiful rose and a heartfelt greeting card. This thoughtful gesture is a token of appreciation for the support and encouragement provided by these remarkable women. Additionally, mothers of the troop’s Eagle Scouts receive a heartfelt card delivered by mail, ensuring that all mothers are celebrated and honored on this special day.
